In addition, the museum regularly features major exhibitions of art from around the world, as well as a year-round schedule of supporting programs and educational opportunities, providing a rich and diverse experience for more than 500,000 annual visitors. The museum islocated at 1450 El Prado in Balboa Park. Hours and admissions vary, depending on exhibitions. Google collaboraties with institutional libraries to digitize large quantities of books via the Google Books Library Project. Public domain books are available on an open access basis. Copyrighted material is treated in one of three ways. Google negotiates with cooperating publishers through its Google Books Partner Program for "Limited Preview" of entire pages or sections within books by readers. For scanned books without copyright permissions, "snippets" are available. For remaining books basic information is provided without ability to search within the book. The snippets inform readers about the relevance of the book to their subject of inquiry. A Google Book Search conducted March 24, 2008 located no San Diego Museum of Art catalogues with either a Limited preview or Snippet View. There were a total of 43 catalogues published by the San Diego Museum of Art referenced in the search.

Why was this sub-index page prepared?

When Resource Library publishes over time more than one article concerning an institution, there is created as an additional resource for readers a sub-index page containing links to each Resource Library article or essay concerning that institution, plus available information on its location and other descriptive information.

See our Museums Explained to learn about the "inner workings" of art museums and the functions of staff members. In the exhibitions section find out how to get the most out of a museum visit. See definitions for a glossary of museum-related words used in articles.

To help you plan visits to institutions exhibiting American art when traveling see Sources of Articles Indexed by State within the United States.

Unless otherwise noted, all text and image materials relating to the above institutional source were provided by that source. Before reproducing or transmitting text or images please read Resource Library's user agreement.
