Personal Visions: Recent Gifts from Joseph D. and Janet M. Shein

In December of 1999, the Palmer Museum of Art received a gift of nine works of contemporary art from the collection of Joseph D, and Janet M. Shein. This fall, the museum will celebrate their generosity by installing the works in the David and Gerry Plncus Gallery of Contemporary Art. Personal Visions: Recent Gifts from Joseph D. and Janet M. Shein, an exhibition that includes both paintings and sculpture, opened at the Palmer Museum of Art on August 22, 2000.

It is an exhibition of highly-charged, large-scale works of intimidating size. Boisterous allegories by Roy DeForest, techno-portraits by Ed Paschke, and politically-charged paintings by Jerry Kearns all compete for the viewer's attention in what promises to be an eye-catching exhibition,

"The Sheins have a delightfully eclectic collection of contemporary art. They are also long-standing supporters of the art museum," comments curator Glenn Willumson. "We are very pleased to be able to add works of such quality to the museum's collections and we look forward to this opportunity to share them with our visitors this fall." In addition to the paintings already named, a large oil painting by Penn State alumnus Kate Javens, Working Horse, Hauling and a major work by figurative sculptor Marisol, titled Black Foot Delegation to Washington, 1916, will also be featured in the exhibition.
