Arthur Smith attended Kenmore High
School and the School of Fine Arts at Buffalo Fine Arts Academy, where he
studied commercial design. He received his bachelor's of science degree
in art education from Buffalo State College in 1939 and immediately began
teaching in high schools in Ithaca, New York. In 1947, he received his master's
of science degree in education supervision from Cornell University, followed
by a doctoral degree in education supervision fiom Syracuse University in
1951.
