Terry L. Oldham Is New Director at Albrecht-Kemper Museum of Art

Terry L. Oldham has accepted the position of Director of the Museum effective Sept. 20, 1999. Formerly Director/Curator of Education at the Museum of Art in Tallahassee, Fla., Oldham replaces Mark Spencer who resigned in April to become the Associate Director of the Arts Council of Metropolitan Kansas City.

A native of Kansas City, Kan., Oldham is a 27-year veteran of the United States Air Force with duty from Vietnam to Desert Storm and is a recipient of the Distinguished Flying Cross, Bronze Star and Aerial Achievement Medal. He was a command pilot who flew over 5,000 hours in high-performance aircraft.

Always interested in art, Oldham returned to his alma mater, the University of Kansas, where he had received a Bachelor of Science in Aerospace Engineering, to complete a Master of Arts Degree, with Honors, in Art Museum Education. "When I was growing up, everything had to do with space -- almost everyone wanted to be an astronaut," he said on a recent visit to the Albrecht-Kemper. "But I've always liked art and continued taking art classes while working on my bachelor degree."

Oldham has a Master of Business Administration from the University of Hawaii as well. Prior to moving to Tallahassee, he was Interim Assistant Director of the Spencer Museum in Lawrence, Kan.

"We're delighted to have Terry join the Museum," Dr. Jim Roever, President of the Museum's Board of Directors, said. "We were fortunate to find someone so qualified." Roever served as Chairman of the Museum's Search Committee.
