Art of the Harvest

Art of the Harvest, on display through December, 1999 celebrates the rich bounty of the harvest season. The exhibit is derived form the Museum's permanent collection and portrays the harvest season as interpreted by Utah artists. Through their art they express the preparations, work and rewards of each harvest. Among those featured in the display are Harriet Richards Harwood, James Taylor Harwood, Earl Jones, John C. Hafen, LeConte Stewart and Mahonri Mackintosh Young. Their works feature familiar Utah subjects like the Heber Valley, the Lehi Old Mill, farming in Mt. Pleasant and hay harvesting in Gunlock. The exhibit was coordinated by docents at the UMFA to supplement the fourth grade pARTners program. The focus of the fall program is the elements of art. More than 3,000 children will view the exhibit over the next several months. The exhibit is free and open to the public. (left above: Earl Jones, Barn at Mt. Pleasant, oil on canvas)
