C.M. Russell Museum Auction of Original Western Art

The slogan Big Party! Small Art! describes the 13th annual C.M. Russell Museum Benefit. The Benefit, slated for Saturday, September 12, 1998, is a sale of miniature art by silent auction. Miniature art is defined as paintings of a maximum of 144 square inches and sculpture up to 12 inches in any direction. Approximately 218 works of art by 132 artists personally invited to submit their works, will be sold during this evening of bidding, sumptuous hors d'oeuvres, cocktails and sinful desserts. The miniature art works will be on display in the Museum's Feature Exhibition Gallery from June 26 through September 12. Over 15 artists in the exhibit have been invited for the first time. The Benefit is a self-sponsored fund raiser with the proceeds allocated for Museum exhibitions, programs and other educational activities.

For the art lover who would like to bid on a piece after viewing the exhibit but can't make it to the event, absentee bids are accepted. Absentee bids forms may be picked up from the Museum's reception desk or by contacting Mike Bushly at 406-727-8787 or fax 406-727-2402. Bid forms and a brochure, complete with black and white photos of the art works and opening bids, can also be mailed to those that are interested. Absentee bids need to be returned to Mike Bushly in person, by mail or fax by Thursday, September 10.

The elegant evening on Saturday, September 12 begins with a reception at 6:30 p.m. During the reception, sign up for a bid number, view the art and commence bidding. Silent bidding in the first of four galleries closes at 8:15 p.m. By 9:15 p.m. the silent auctions will be over and the desserts, generously donated by several volunteer chefs, and gourmet coffee will be served. The evening also features live entertainment by Steve Seltzer and Bob McKinnon, and The Kohlers. New this year is a door prize: every ticket holder is eligible to win one of two C.M. Russell Auction of Original Western Art Collector's tickets courtesy of the Great Falls Advertising Federation. These collector tickets are valued at $150.00 each and include entrance to all Auction events, early entrance to Quick Draws and Auctions with special seating preference, a private reception, and a color Auction catalog.
