The Southern Alleghenies Museum of Art exists to preserve, exhibit, and advance American art and is dedicated to making its programs and activities accessible to the people of the southwestern area of central Pennsylvania. Charged with the development, maintenance, and perpetuation of a permanent collection, the Museum mounts exhibitions designed to evoke an interest in and an understanding and appreciation of American art.

The Loretto facility at Saint Francis University serves as headquarters to the complex of four Museum facilities and is a repository for the permanent collection of works of American art. Exhibitions are developed from national collections, as well as from the Museum's permanent collection. The Loretto facility is located at St. Francis College Mall P.O. Box 9 Loretto, PA 15940.

The Altoona facility was designed with state-of-the-art exhibition and storage space for quarterly exhibitions and a rare collection of albumen photographic prints by William H. Rau, the official photographer for the Pennsylvania Railroad at the turn of the 20th century.

The Johnstown gallery is housed in the Pasquerilla Performing Arts Center at the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown, and, working in partnership with UPJ, develops an exhibition calendar designed to enhance the university experience and the cultural environment of the region.

The Ligonier Valley facility is modeled on an authentic log cabin design that reflects the historic community, and is surrounded by gardens maintained by a volunteer auxiliary. The Walter Carlyle Shaw Paperweight Collection is on permanent display in a custom installation that frames the exhibition gallery.

Please see the Museum's website for hours and admission fees.
