The Institute is named to honor the founders who established it in 1919 as a legacy for their community, Utica, NY, and the surrounding region. Programs evolving from their interests and intentions now include 800 events annually with 175,000 total participation. The Institute is a recent Governor's Arts Award recipient. Fountain Elms, which houses the decorative arts division of the Museum of Art, is an Italianate-style mansion with period room settings, study galleries, and exhibition galleries. The Museum of Art is open Tuesday through Saturday 10 am to 5 pm, and Sundays 1 to 5 pm. Admission is free.
