Distinguished Artist Series
Frank Coburn
by Bradley J. Delaney

Self Portrait, c. 1940, oil on cardboard, 14 x 10
inches
Frank Coburn's life spanned a critical
period of American history. Born while the Civil War was in progress, he
grew to manhood during a time of spectacular growth, industrialization,
urbanization and cultural diversification. He witnessed some of the great
changes which belatedly affected Los Angeles, lived through most of the
depression, and died on the eve of Word War II.
