Thomas Moran, Nearing Camp on the Upper Colorado River, 1882

The Bolton Museum and Art Gallery, of Bolton (UK) seeks to acquire Thomas Moran's Nearing Camp on the Upper Colorado River for its permanent collection. Strongly influenced by Turner and and other British landscape artists, this picture was Moran's attempt to cement his reputation in the country of his birth. He exhibited it in the UK during 1882 and it was there that the art critic John Ruskin first saw his work; he was deeply impressed, purchasing several pictures for himself.

Moran works at the Bolton - not all works are on display.
