Resource Library: Submitting Materials
Should I submit images?
Resource Library suggests submitting one image, with accompanying caption, per 200 words of text for publicity articles. Images are welcomed in two media:
Please see Resource Library's Content Presentation Guidelines regarding credit lines and captions.
Resource Library also welcomes (examples below):
Please accompany each image with a credit line in .doc file or plain text format in an email.
Resource Library is unable to open e-mail "zipped" or "stuffed" .jpg images placed inside a document. Please do not send 35mm slides, 4x5 or 8x10 inch transparencies. Also do not send paper-printed photographs or artworks. Resource Library will not be responsible for damage to them and will not return them to you.
This publication prefers low resolution .jpg images at 72 dpi, range of 250-450 pixels wide with average of 350-450 pixels wide for landscape orientation, and range of 150-350 pixels wide with average of 200-300 pixels wide for portrait orientation. The .jpg images should be RGB color and saved at 3 or 4 (medium) on Photoshop's 1-10 index of image quality options in the "Options" dialog box, so that file sizes are under 25K.
Images are stored and published online as limited pixel width and height, low resolution, compressed .jpg images in Resource Library to speed download times and, for the benefit of sources, to render images that are arguably safer from some illicit uses than high resolution electronic or paper printing. For further protection from illicit use on the part of viewers or for other reasons, a source may create a .jpg with a white or colored space border under or around the image including a credit line (and sometimes a caption) within the bottom section of the border before submitting the image to Resource Library for publication. Since Resource Library often reduces the size of .jpgs provided by sources, reduction of the size of the submitted .jpg may result in the credit line being reduced to a size illegible to viewers. For this reason Resource Library discourages sources from sending .jpgs with credit lines or captions within borders of .jpg images. Since images placed on pages within Resource Library may be copied by viewers, sources who do not want there to be an opportunity for viewers to copy images should not submit them.
All images are published on a permanent basis, subject to Resource Library's policy on errors and omissions.
Please do not send materials to Resource Library for online publication unless you are the copyright owner or are sure that you have permission from copyright holders to do so.
