William Eggleston in the Real World. Of this 84 minute 2005 DVD directed by Michael Almereyda, National Film Network says: "In 1976, William Eggleston's hallucinatory, Faulknerian images were featured in the Museum of Modern Art's first one-man exhibition of color photographs. He has been called "the beginning of modern color photography" (John Szarkowski, MoMA) and "one of the most significant figures in contemporary photography" (Charles Hagen, NY Times). It is rare for an artist of such stature to allow himself to be shown as unguardedly as Eggleston does in Michael Almereyda's intimate portrait. The filmmaker tracks the photographer on trips to Kentucky, Los Angeles and New York, but gives particular attention to downtime in Memphis, Eggleston's home base. The film shows a deep connection between Eggleston's enigmatic personality and his groundbreaking work, and also reveals his parallel commitments as a musician, draftsman and videographer. Eggleston, age 65, has become an icon and inspiration to artists worldwide." View a William Eggleston In The Real World trailer here [01:45] and the whole video here [1:24:56]

William Keith: The Artist and His Times, is a 1995 video running 23 minutes and features images from the St. Mary's College Collection. A Studio Miramar Production. The Gallery web site says of the video: "When William Keith arrives in California in 1859, he begins a fifty-year artistic and emotional journey. His early paintings strive to capture the drama of the Western wilderness. But by the 1890s, Keith paints subtle, intimate landscapes that reveal his artistic and spiritual maturity. In this documentary, more than fifty of Keith's paintings show the range of his artistic vision. Historic photographs, footage of California scenes today, and the words of the artist, his friend John Muir, and their contemporaries help tell the story of this remarkable artist and his times." The Gallery's description adds: "Studio Miramar has remastered our excellent video, 'William Keith: The Artist and His Times,' into dvd format. An important addition to the library of works about the late 19th century master artist, the comprehensive, educational and entertaining presentation juxtaposes rare archival photographs with spectacular contemporary footage of the Western wilderness, extensive presentation of Keith's paintings, and the words of John Muir, Keith, and others." Re-creations of Homer in Maine were shot with the cooperation of his descendants at his cliff-side studio in Prout's Neck.
