Tell Me a Story -- Chapter I: Narrative Themes in Contemporary Fiber Arts
The Cahoon Museum of American Art will present the exhibition Tell Me a Story -- Chapter I: Narrative Themes in Contemporary Fiber Arts from Feb. 1 through March 24, 2001. Twenty-four of the country's most imaginative and innovative fiber artists were invited to exhibit one or two examples of their art. The show represents a diversity of techniques, subjects and styles. The common denominator is that each piece has a strong narrative component.
The
fiber techniques are as varied as the stories and include numerous examples
of mixed-media approaches. Nancy Erickson paints her images on fabric and
then quilts them. Susan Shie and James Acord add many found objects and
Acord's leather constructions to their unique stream-of-consciousness quilts.
