Arizona Highways: Celebrating Our Land, Our People

"Arizona Highways: Celebrating Our Land, Our People," a photography exhibition of Arizona Highways magazine's best contemporary photographers, opened Saturday, October 7, 2000 at Tubac Center of the Arts (TCA).

The year 2000 marks the 75th anniversary of the publication. TCA was chosen as one of three venues to celebrate this milestone with an exhibition of 75 photo enlargements. Created by Desert Caballeros Western Museum (Wickenburg, Ariz.), the exhibition features 75 photo enlargements - some as large as 4 x 8 feet - that depict the unique aspects of Arizona. Landscapes, ancient cultures, and portraits.

From its inception, Arizona Highways created a new standard for the travel industry. Its prominence was established many years ago when editor Raymond Carlson decided to feature color photos in his modest travel publication. Photographers Joseph Muench, Ray Manley, Esther Henderson, Ansel Adams were early contributors. The magazine's editorial support of these photographers and their work created a genre of photography that continues to set standards throughout the industry. (photo courtesy of Arizona Highways)
