Alexa Kleinbard: Talking Leaves
May 6 - June 25, 2000
"Alexa Kleinbard: Talking Leaves" (Indian for book) is an environmentally-conscious
exhibition, which will showcase 54 paintings by Tallahassee artist, Alexa
Kleinbard. The paintings are ethereal landscapes that are created on carefully
cut-out leaf forms of specific plants. Within the leaf form is an internal
landscape, which envelops the viewer and draws him or her into the landscape.
The objective is to heighten the viewers' awareness of their oneness with
nature and the fragile environment in which society lives. (left:

For
the past 15 years, the work of Alexa Kleinbard has been inspired by environmental
issues and the changing natural environment. Kleinbard received her BFA
from the Philadelphia College of Art and has been the recipient of a number
of awards including NEA SECCA Endowment Grants and a Florida Fellowship
Grant from the Florida Arts Council. (left: Motherwort, Shell
