Franz Strahalm was born in Vienna, Austria and studied at the Art School of Hamburg. Strahalm eventually moved to Dallas and opened the School in Fine Painting, a private art studio. Specializing in Texas landscapes, the artist was asked to exhibit one example of his work at the prestigious 1926 Sesquicentennial International Exhibition in Philadelphia. He submitted Palo Duro Canyon..
