The Figure in Contemporary Sculpture
March 21 - May 14, 2000
This 50th anniversary special exhibition features the work of twelve
artists who have had an 
impact on the development of figurative sculpture
in the region, nation and internationally as well. Also, a small selection
of figurative sculptors who have an important connection to Duluth and the
Tweed Museum of Art through previous exhibition, academic and professional

In the spirit of the Contemporary Art Center, Cincinnati
and curator Sarah Rogers-Rafferty's 1985 "Body and Soul - Aspects of
Recent Figurative Sculpture," Tweed's "The Figure in Contemporary
Sculpture" exhibition examines the unique and personal 
artistic
statements of these Midwest 
artists, several shown at the museum for the first

The Tweed's Director, Martin DeWitt, seeks contributions
to purchase for the collection the Meeker sculpture shown above as well
as another sculpture in the exhibition.
Lenders to the exhibition include the exhibition artists,
Art Resources Gallery, St. Paul; Klein Art Works, Chicago; Tweed Museum
of Art, University of Minnesota Duluth; and the Duluth Entertainment and
Convention Center.
