Hyde Collection Art Museum Appoints Randall Suffolk as Director

 

Randall Suffolk has been appointed the director of The Hyde Collection Art Museum. He has been serving as the Museum's acting director since September 1999 when Kathleen Monaghan resigned to assume a position with the Fresno Metropolitan Museum of Science, History and Art. The board of trustees unanimously affirmed his appointment at their February meeting. "We are extremely happy with Mr. Suffolk's performance as acting director," stated chairman of the board Mario Papa, "We are very pleased to name him as full-time director of The Hyde Collection." Randall Suffolk joined The Hyde's staff in November 1995 as curator and was promoted to deputy director in September 1998. During those terms, he curated over twenty exhibitions and shaped the educational department. He is now the Museum's seventh director. With regard to his appointment, Suffolk commented "The Hyde is an exceptional artistic resource for our community and region. It is blessed with an outstanding permanent collection, vital exhibitions and educational programming. I am delighted to have been given this opportunity to participate in shaping its future."

A resident of Glens Falls, Suffolk holds a BA in English from Connecticut College, a MA in higher education administration from Columbia University and an MA in Art History from Bryn Mawr College. Prior to joining The Hyde, he served as a consultant to the Arts Corporation, Ltd. of Philadelphia and as an associate for the W. Graham Arader III Galleries in Philadelphia and New York. He presently serves on the board of directors of the Adirondack/Lake George Regional Tourism Board and The Feeder Canal Alliance. Additionally, he is a member of the strategic planning committee for the University Art Museum of the State University of New York at Albany, and a review panel member for Special Opportunity Stipend Grants of the New York State Council on the Arts.
